English Regnal Years (英國君主紀年)
ENGLISH & BRITISH REGNAL YEARS — the legal dating of nine and a half centuries: statutes cited '12 Geo. III c. 20,' charters dated 'in the seventh year of our reign,' every regnal year running accession-anniversary to anniversary, never the calendar year. The third of the catalogue's great reign-dating trio beside the Chinese nianhao and Japanese nengō — 42 monarchs, William the Conqueror to Charles III, on Cheney's standard dates. THE FAMOUS LAWS ASSERTED: TIME IMMEMORIAL — Richard I's count opens at his coronation, 3 September 1189, the exact date English law fixed as the limit of legal memory; THE CHARLES II FICTION — his years run from his father's execution (30 January 1649), so the Restoration itself fell in his TWELFTH year, the republic erased by a date (proven by the arithmetic); THE ERASED QUEEN — Mary I dated from 6 July 1553, writing Jane Grey's nine days out of law (Jane carried as the disputed seam); THE YEAR OF THREE KINGS (1936, proven from the table); 12 Geo. III = 1772; Elizabeth II's 70 completed years over Victoria's 63 — a law that itself caught the naive year-subtraction error. KING JOHN's Ascension-Day movable years DEFERRED BY NAME rather than approximated; the Interregnum served as the fact the fiction erased; pre-1752 Old Style noted with the oldStyle engine as companion. Western becomes forty-eight. Pure compute, no LLM.
