Graph Walk

The typed compliance walk over the stored reference pair — what a document cites (out), what cites it (in), or both, optionally filtered by relation kind (cites / updates).

The pair IS the graph (the ROADMAP verdict): plain SQL over books."references" / books.referenced_by, one indexed source_id in (…) batch per hop, no edge table. Nodes carry distance (hops from the seed); edges are CANONICAL (from cites to) in every direction and carry the relation kinds the row claims. Traversed edges only (distances < hops); truncated names a walk a cap stopped early (graph.WALK_NODE_CAP / WALK_EDGE_CAP, measured bounds — the worst live two-hop closure is 856 nodes). Metadata only — never spends search credits. 404 when the seed is not in the corpus.
