East Asian Age Reckoning (数え年・虚岁) (虛歲)

EAST ASIAN AGE RECKONING — the counting age (数え年・虚岁・세는나이): you are born at ONE, the womb-year counted, and everyone grows a year older together at the NEW YEAR, not on their private birthday — for most of East Asian history this was simply what age MEANT, and misreading classical ages as Western ages is the historian’s classic one-to-two-year error. THE DEC-31 THEOREM asserted at load: a child born on 31 December is TWO the next morning — one at birth, two at the new year — while the Western count says one day old. THE GAP LAW: the counting age exceeds the Western age by exactly 1 or 2, proven across cases. TWO NEW YEARS served side by side, never blended: the civil (+1 each 1 January — Japan and Korea) and the LUNAR (+1 each Spring Festival — the Chinese 虚岁, computed against the independent lunar engine), with THE BLINKING-OFFSET LAW proven: the January-born run +1 in the lunar count except in each year’s window between 1 January and the Spring Festival, when the offset blinks to zero. Korea’s International Age Act (effective 28 June 2023) carried as the gazette anchor — the rare law that changed everyone’s age at once. Eastern becomes seventy-two. Pure compute, no LLM.
