Put the approved answer on the wire, then mark the thread answered.
In that order, and only in that order. Marking first and sending after would let a delivery failure leave a thread the customer believes was answered, which is the worst outcome available here: the prospect is waiting, the inbox is empty, and nothing in the product says otherwise.
