Documents

Recall or delete a document

Recall a sent document, or permanently delete one that was never sent or is already recalled. Which of the two happens depends on the document's state:

  • Sent and not recalled: the document is recalled, not deleted. Its status becomes recalled, a recalled event is added to its log, and the document.recalled webhook fires. The document and its data are kept. Call this endpoint again to delete it.
  • Never sent, or already recalled: the document is permanently deleted, and the rest of its data is erased in the background. This cannot be undone.

Deleting a sent document therefore takes two calls. Both answer 204 No Content. To tell them apart, read the document afterwards: a recalled document still returns its status, and a deleted one returns 404.

When deletion is unrestricted, only the document's owner or an admin can permanently delete it. For anyone else, the delete step answers 404 and the document is kept. If the account restricts document deletion to admins, non-admins receive 403 before either recall or deletion.
