Olympiad Count (Ancient & Modern) (奧林匹亞紀年)

THE OLYMPIAD COUNT — Greece's own era: time reckoned in the four-year spans between the games at Olympia, from the FIRST OLYMPIAD (summer 776 BC, Koroibos of Elis — the oldest fixed point of Greek chronology). Historians from Timaeus to Eusebius dated the Greek world by it, and the 1896 revival quietly kept the era alive: every summer Games is formally 'the Games of the Nth OLYMPIAD' — a period, not a party. THE ANCIENT ANCHORS AS LAWS: Ol. 195, year 1 opens in the summer of AD 1 (the chronologists' published alignment) and Theodosius's abolition (AD 393) falls in the 293rd Olympiad — both from pure arithmetic, the July boundary served as the chronologists' convention with the classical full-moon variance disclosed. THE MODERN ASYMMETRY, BOTH RULES PROVEN: the summer count numbers PERIODS — the cancelled Games of 1916 (VI), 1940 (XII) and 1944 (XIII) keep their numerals forever, and Tokyo's Games held in 2021 remained the XXXII Olympiad; Paris 2024 was XXXIII — while the WINTER count numbers held editions only (no numerals for the cancelled 1940/44 winters), making Milano-Cortina 2026 the XXV Winter Games, proven by counting the held list itself. One movement, two opposite numbering philosophies. Greek becomes six systems. Pure compute, no LLM.
