Search Crossref works by query, author, title, type, or date range

Search the Crossref /works collection (170M+ DOIs). Combine free-text q with author, title, type, and publication-date filters. filter accepts a raw Crossref filter string (e.g. has-orcid:true,has-references:true) and is merged with the convenience parameters. Use limit and offset for shallow pagination (offset cap 10,000); pass sort=indexed&order=desc to walk the whole corpus by re-index time. Data licensed CC0 by Crossref.

Query parameters

qstring nullable

Free-text query matched against bibliographic fields. Relevance-ranked.

authorstring nullable

Author name (matched fuzzily against query.author).

titlestring nullable

Title words (matched fuzzily against query.title).

typestring nullable

Publication-type filter (see /types for catalog; e.g. journal-article, book-chapter).

from_datestring nullable

Publication-date lower bound, ISO 8601 (YYYY, YYYY-MM, or YYYY-MM-DD).

to_datestring nullable

Publication-date upper bound, ISO 8601 (YYYY, YYYY-MM, or YYYY-MM-DD).

filterstring nullable

Raw Crossref filter expression merged with the convenience params (e.g. has-orcid:true,has-references:true).

limitinteger

Items per page (1 to 1000). Crossref caps rows at 1000.

offsetinteger

Zero-based offset into the result set (upstream cap 10,000). Beyond 10,000 use cursor pagination via sort=indexed.

sortstring nullable

Sort field: score, relevance, updated, deposited, indexed, published, published-print, published-online, issued, is-referenced-by-count, references-count.

orderstring nullable

Sort order: asc or desc.

Response

Matching work records with pagination block (total_results, items_per_page, next_cursor).
