Canonical Hours (Daily Office) (時辰禮儀)

THE CANONICAL HOURS — the Christian daily office: eight prayer-times that structured every monastic day for fifteen centuries, and whose bells WERE medieval Europe's public clock. Seven offices by day (Psalm 119:164, 'seven times a day I praise you') and the night vigil (119:62) — the 7+1 law asserted. THE LITTLE HOURS ARE DAWN-COUNTED ARITHMETIC: Terce, Sext and None are the third, sixth and ninth hours of the ancient daylight count — office n = 6 + n, so 9 am, noon, 3 pm (asserted) — the same dawn-counting the catalogue's East African clock serves as living practice today. AND ENGLISH PRAYS THE OFFICE WITHOUT KNOWING IT, two fossil words as laws: NOON is NONE, the NINTH hour (3 pm), which slid exactly three hours to midday as the monastic meal crept earlier, dragging the word with it (the drift asserted); SIESTA is SEXTA, the sixth hour's rest. The modern honesty carried: Vatican II SUPPRESSED Prime — the one canonical hour that no longer exists — and reshaped the rest into the Liturgy of the Hours; the classical scheme is served as the history it is, community variance in bell-times disclosed. Completes the sacred-hours trio beside zmanim and salat. Christian becomes six. Pure compute, no LLM.
