API versioning and deprecation policy

How breaking changes arrive, the RFC 8594 Sunset and Deprecation headers a retiring version carries, the minimum notice window, and a live table of every version currently served with its status and sunset date. HTML for browsers, JSON or markdown by Accept. Free.

This door negotiates: text/html, text/markdown, application/json, parsed with q-values (RFC 9110 §12.5.1). A bare wildcard or no header gets text/html; a named AI reader that states no preference gets markdown where it is offered. The answer carries Vary.

If-None-Matchstring

Send a prior ETag (SHA-256 of exact response bytes). Unchanged content returns 304 with no body.
