mode'COMBINED' | 'MERGED' | 'EXTENSION'

Controls delete behavior to match IDE editing modes. COMBINED (default) adds the topic to deletedTopics if it exists in the parent model (prevents reappearing). MERGED behaves the same as COMBINED. EXTENSION hard-deletes the topic from the extension layer.
