Search companies by name
Resolve a Norwegian company NAME to its 9-digit organisasjonsnummer via Brønnøysund's public navn= free-text filter on Enhetsregisteret. The one company endpoint that does NOT require an org number up front — use it when you hold a name but not a number, so an agent never guesses a MOD-11-valid number and hits the wrong company. Deliberately token-efficient: at most ten candidates, five fields each (name, org_number, org_form, municipality, status) — never the full registry payload. A zero-hit search returns 404 NOT_FOUND with a broaden-the-name hint rather than an empty 200 an agent might loop on. Mock-by-default (BRREG_MODE); the live adapter reads the open Enhetsregisteret name search (no delegation, no personal data). NLOD-licensed public infrastructure. Requires an API key scoped read:brreg.

Query parameters
Company name to search for (2–100 characters; leading/trailing whitespace is trimmed before the 2–100 bound is applied). Matched against Brønnøysund's registered navn field. Omit the legal form for a broader match (search Nordic Widgets, not Nordic Widgets AS). Norwegian characters (æ/ø/å) are supported.
Response
One or more candidate companies matched. data.candidates is capped at ten, most relevant first (Brønnøysund's own ordering); data.query echoes the trimmed name the search ran and data.count is the candidate count.
