Validate property ownership via domain file

Verifies ownership of a property domain by checking for a validation file hosted on the domain.

How verification works

  1. The API retrieves the property by ID.

  2. If the property is already verified, the request returns immediately.

  3. The API requests the following URL:

    http://{domain}/sharethis-property.txt

  4. The file must contain only the property ID as plain text.

  5. If the ID matches, the property is marked as verified.

File requirements

  • Filename: sharethis-property.txt
  • Location: Root of the domain
  • Content: Exact property ID (no whitespace, no extra text)

Common failure reasons

  • File does not exist
  • File contents do not match property ID
  • Property does not exist
  • Property is already verified
