The return page polls this so it can say "check your inbox" against the address that was actually billed, rather than guessing.
DELIBERATELY THIN. It answers a state and a masked address and nothing else. The Checkout Session id is a capability the buyer holds in their own URL, but it travels through a redirect and a browser history, so this returns nothing that would be worth harvesting if one leaked: no account id, no plan entitlements, no unmasked address, and no session.
An unknown id answers "pending" rather than 404. The row may genuinely not exist yet, and distinguishing "no such session" from "not finished" would turn this into an oracle for probing session ids.
