List jurisdictions

Lists counties, cities, towns and other jurisdictions, largest first, then by name.

Each jurisdiction includes its identifiers, the jurisdictions that contain it, and coverage, the data available for it. Boundaries are included with include=geometry or format=geojson.

Query parameters

latnumber nullable

Latitude, in WGS 84. Requires lon. Results are the jurisdictions that contain the point.

lonnumber nullable

Longitude, in WGS 84. Requires lat.

fipsstring nullable

A Census GEOID, such as 37, 37183 or 3755000. Results are the jurisdiction with that GEOID.

statestring nullable

A state, as a postal abbreviation or FIPS code, such as NC or 37. Results are limited to jurisdictions within it.

countystring nullable

A county, as a five-digit FIPS code such as 37183, or three digits with state. Results are limited to jurisdictions within it.

qstring nullable

A name, or the start of one. Results are ordered best match first.

tierstring[] nullable

Level of government. One of region, subregion or local. Repeatable.

typestring[] nullable

Kind of jurisdiction, in local terms, such as county, city, town, village or township. Repeatable.

withinstring nullable

A jurisdiction id.

A jurisdiction id. Results are limited to jurisdictions within it.

includestring nullable

Comma-separated sections to include. One of geometry (each boundary, as GeoJSON).

format'json' | 'geojson'

Response format. One of json (a list) or geojson (a FeatureCollection). Defaults to json. Accept: application/geo+json also selects geojson.

cursorstring nullable

A cursor for pagination: the next_cursor from the previous page.

sizeinteger nullable

Number of results per page, between 1 and 200. Defaults to 20.

totalboolean

Whether to include total, the count of all matches, on the first page. Defaults to false.

Response

A page of jurisdictions.

object'list' required

The object's type. Always list.

has_moreboolean required

Whether there are more results after this page.

next_cursorstring nullable required

The cursor for the next page. Send it as cursor. Null on the last page.

suppressedinteger required

The number of matching results withheld because the plan does not include them.
