lunar

Lunar Today

Get the current moon phase, right now, in UTC.

We intentionally use datetime.now(UTC) instead of date.today() so the phase tracks the real illumination fraction at the moment of the request. date.today() on Cloud Run is UTC midnight of the server's wall clock — for a Moscow user checking at 01:00 local (22:00 UTC the previous day), that meant they saw the previous UTC day's phase even though astronomically the moon had already moved forward by ~13° of apparent longitude.
