The period is the rule the contract states; the deadline it lands on is proposed separately (ContractSummaryChangeSet.termination_notice_date), because the two are not always one subtraction apart. Keeping the period is what lets a deadline that is that subtraction follow an amended expiration instead of going stale (NoticeDateSource.DERIVED).
