Create Checkout Session
Start a paid-plan subscription, or change an existing subscriber's plan.
Free/guest users get a Stripe Checkout Session (locked to their account email so the webhook's email-match upgrade applies) and a checkout_url to redirect to. Existing paid subscribers have their live subscription updated in place (prorated) instead of opening a second one — which would double-bill — and get {checkout_url: null, updated: true}.
