MLB batting/pitching season leaderboard
Season batting/pitching leaderboard, computed at request time from player_stats (no pre-aggregated season table exists yet; see docs/baseball-player-stats-gap-scoping-2026-08-05.md). Batting and pitching are split per the same rule GET /v1/players/{id}/stats? sport=baseball uses: a player-game is pitching iff it carries era/earnedRuns/innings-pitched, otherwise batting. HONESTY: player_stats currently covers the 2026 season ONLY (no earlier seasons exist yet), and current-season coverage itself is partial (~76% of finished games at time of writing); every response's meta carries season_note, finished_games, games_with_stats, and coverage_pct so this is never presented as complete or historical. stat=era sorts ascending (lower is better); every other stat sorts descending. 5-minute cache.

Query parameters
Defaults to home_runs for batting, era for pitching. Must belong to the requested category (400 otherwise).
Season LABEL, not a calendar year: the year a season STARTS in. 2025 means the 2025-26 campaign for leagues that cross the new year (EPL, NBA, NHL) and the 2025 season for those that do not (MLB, MLS, WNBA). Filtering resolves each league's own start month, so a season never spans two calendar years' worth of rows.
Response
ok. { data, meta }; meta carries the coverage-honesty fields described above.
