Physical output format specs (page size, margins, typography). The web editor derives its canvas sizing from these so the editor, the preview, and the printed output all share one definition.

The backend-owned template variable catalog: every {{token}} the render pipeline knows, with label, description, applicable template types, and the sample value previews use. The editor's variable picker and autocomplete derive from this.

/templates/discharge-variables/{appointmentId}
The patient-record discharge variables for an appointment (ITE-1237): microchip, colour, age, weight in kg and lbs, and sex with neuter/spay status, as the printed discharge fills them (DischargePatientVariables). The on-screen discharge preview merges these into its template context, so it no longer shows the raw tokens. A value the record lacks is an empty string. 404 for an unknown appointment, including another tenant's. Open to any authenticated tenant user, like GET /patients/{id}: patient demographics are not a sensitive read under docs/permissions.md (Model A).

Renders (possibly unsaved) editor sections through the real production pipeline — sample data, regional compliance blocks, QuestPDF — and returns one PNG per page. More than one page on a fixed-size label format means the content overflows the label.

Renders a client-message template for a real client so staff can edit it in the composer before sending (ITE-1171). Values come from the tenant's records — client, and optionally the patient, appointment and estimate, each of which must belong to the client. Returns plain text for the channels the template claims, plus every {{Token}} left unfilled. Archived templates still render: a draft opened before the archive shouldn't break.

Creates a template from a starter layout. The copy is the clinic's own — it is never made the default automatically, and later changes to the starter don't touch it. The name gets a " (2)", " (3)"… suffix if the clinic already has one by that name.

Archives a client-message template: it leaves lists (unless `includeArchived=true`) but the row stays so its history survives. Undo with restore. Other types are refused — their send and print paths (and settings pages) don't know about archiving.
