# Update a topic

`PATCH /v2/topics/{topicId}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.zenzap.co`
- URL: `https://api.zenzap.co/v2/topics/{topicId}`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP bearer and API key in header `X-Signature`
  - OAuth 2
    - Client credentials
    - Token URL: `https://api.zenzap.co/oauth/token` scopes: `channel:write`
- TypeScript: <https://skmtc.dev/zenzap/apis/zenzap-external-integration-api/docs/v2/topics/:topicId/patch.ts> (a function with typed inputs; its response is checked against the schema)

Update the name and/or description of a topic.

**Authorization:** Your API key bot must be a member of the topic to update it.

**Validation:** At least one of `name` or `description` must be provided.

**Note:** For security reasons, a 404 response is returned both when the topic does not exist
and when your bot is not a member of the topic.

Limits:
- topic name is limited to 64 characters
- topic description is limited to 10000 characters

## Request body

- TopicPatchRequest: At least one of name or description must be provided
  - `name` string: The new topic name
  - `description` string: The new topic description

## Response `200`

Topic updated successfully

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad request - invalid input
- `401`: Unauthorized - invalid or missing API token
- `404`: Resource not found
- `500`: Internal server error
