# Create Gl Vat Code

`POST /companies/{company_id}/gl/vat-codes`

Create a VAT code by hand.

Usually unnecessary: activating a declared rate
(`PATCH .../accounting/vat-rates/{id}` with `active=true`) materialises the
matching code itself, linked to that rate. Reach for this endpoint only for a
code the rate catalog does not derive — an unlinked code
(`company_vat_rate_id=null`) is not usable by the AI coder.

A `code` that already exists for the company is refused by name; it does not
overwrite the existing row.
