# Add a participant by email

`POST /api/meetings/{id}/participants`

## Request

Adds a user to the meeting by their email address. Only the organizer can add participants.

## Request body

  - `email` string, email, required: Email address of the participant to add

## Response `200`

Already a participant, or unknown email (invitation sent)

  - `data` object
    - `added` boolean: Whether the user was added as a participant
    - `alreadyParticipant` boolean: True when the user is already a participant or the owner
    - `invited` boolean: True when an invitation email was sent to an unknown email address
    - `emailSent` boolean: Whether an invitation email was successfully sent
    - `userId` string: User ID of the existing participant (when alreadyParticipant is true)

## Other responses

- `201`: Participant added successfully
- `400`: Validation error (invalid email, already a participant)
- `401`: Not authenticated
- `403`: User is not the organizer
- `404`: Meeting not found
- `409`: Idempotency-Key conflict. Two possible cases: (1) Permanent conflict — the same key was previously used with a different request body. Use a new key for this request. No Retry-After header is present. (2) Transient conflict — a request with the same key is still being processed. The Retry-After header indicates when to retry the identical request.
- `413`: Request body exceeds 1 MB limit
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded. The Retry-After header indicates how many seconds to wait before retrying.
