# Start Account Trial

`POST /account/trials`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.wistia.com/modern`
- URL: `https://api.wistia.com/modern/account/trials`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Starts a business-tier trial on the current account. The plan tier is
hardcoded — the only caller is the Wistia desktop app's "Invite and
start trial" onboarding CTA.

Requires the current contact to be authorized to start the trial via
the account's AccountPolicy — otherwise returns 403.

[Expiring access tokens](https://docs.wistia.com/reference/post_expiring-token)
with authorizations cannot use this endpoint: starting a trial is an
account-level action authorized as the persisted contact, not through a
token's authorizations. Such requests are forbidden.

## Requires api token with one of the following permissions

## Headers

- `X-Wistia-API-Version` string, required

## Response `201`

Trial started

- object
  - `trial_expires_at` string, date-time, nullable, required: ISO 8601 timestamp when the trial expires. Null if the trial has no end date.
  - `plan_tier` string, nullable, required: The plan tier now active on the account.
  - `is_trial` boolean, required: Always true on success.

## Other responses

- `401`: Unauthorized, invalid or missing token
- `403`: Forbidden, token is valid but account does not have access to feature
- `500`: Internal server error
