# Get remaining transcription time

`GET /v1/credits`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://whipscribe.com/api`
- URL: `https://whipscribe.com/api/v1/credits`
- Auth: API key in header `X-API-Key`

Transcription time left on the account behind the API key. Credit is shared between the web app and the API.

## Response `200`

Balance.

- Balance
  - `email` string
  - `payg_hours_remaining` number: Pay-as-you-go transcription hours left.
  - `pro_active` boolean: Whether a subscription plan is active.
  - `pro_hours_remaining_in_period` number: Plan hours left in the current billing period.
  - `pro_plan` string, nullable
  - `pro_expires_at` string, nullable
  - `hours_used_lifetime` number

## Other responses

- `401`: Missing or invalid API key, or the job needs an ownership proof (`X-Claim-Token`).
- `429`: Too many requests; retry with backoff (`RATE_LIMITED`, `QUOTA_EXCEEDED`).
- `502`: Temporary service error; safe to retry (`BACKEND_ERROR`, `BACKEND_UNREACHABLE`).
- `503`: Balance lookup is not available right now; retry later (`CREDITS_UNAVAILABLE`).
