# Fuel consumption ratings for the vehicle a VIN decodes to.

`GET /v1/vin/{vin}/fuel`

When the decode settles the engine, `engine_settled` is `true` and
`ratings` holds only the ratings matched to that engine. Otherwise it
holds every rating of the model year, as the vehicle route does.

- VinFuel: The fuel ratings for the vehicle a VIN decodes to.
  - `as_of` FuelAsOf, required: The day each country's fuel ratings were current. Null for a country this server holds no ratings for.

    - `source_id` string, nullable: EPA's id for the rating. Null for one from Natural Resources Canada.

  - `vehicle` RecallVehicle: The model year an answer is about.

## Other responses

- `400`: `invalid_vin`, or `validation_failed` for `country` or `year`.
- `404`: `not_found`: no manufacturer is registered for the first three characters. `dataset_unavailable`: this server holds no fuel ratings, or none for the country asked for.
