# NHTSA investigations that list a model year.

`GET /v1/vehicles/{id}/investigations`

By default only the open ones about a possible defect in the vehicles
listed. An investigation is not a finding that a defect exists, and it
lists a year, make and model, never one vehicle: `note` says so.

## Response `200`

The investigations, newest first. An empty list when none lists the model year.

- VehicleInvestigations: NHTSA investigations that list one model year.
  - `as_of` string, required: The day NHTSA's investigation file was current.
  - `attribution` string[], required: The credit lines the data's licence asks for.
  - `investigations` Investigation[], required: Newest first. Empty when none lists the model year.
    - `action` string, required: NHTSA's action number.
    - `campaigns` string[], required: The recall campaigns it led to, as NHTSA numbers them. Empty when it led to none, or to none yet.
    - `closed` string, nullable: The day it was closed. `null` while it is open, and for some old investigations whose closing NHTSA's file does not record.
    - `component` string, nullable: The components it names, as NHTSA words them, separated by `; `.
    - `kind` string, required: The letters the number starts with.
    - `kind_name` string, nullable: The kind in words. `null` for a kind with no name on file.
    - `manufacturer` string, nullable: The manufacturers it names, separated by `; `.
    - `match` string, nullable: In an answer about one model year: how the investigation's vehicle text reached that model. `exact`, `base` (it names a series or trim of the model) or `curated`. `null` in an answer about a campaign.
    - `models` string[], required: In an answer about one model year: the model names the investigation lists that reached it.
    - `open` boolean, required: Whether it was opened in 2010 or later and has no day closed.
    - `opened` string, nullable: The day it was opened.
    - `subject` string, nullable: NHTSA's one-line subject.
    - `summary` string, nullable: NHTSA's summary. It can be several thousand characters.
  - `note` string, required: That an investigation is not a finding of a defect and is not about one vehicle. Show it wherever the list is shown.
  - `vehicle` RecallVehicle, required: The model year an answer is about.
    - `id` string, required: The id of the year, make and model.

    - `year` integer, required

## Other responses

- `400`: `validation_failed`: `status` is not `open` or `all`.
- `404`: `not_found`: no vehicle has that id. `dataset_unavailable`: this server holds no investigations.
