# What owners reported to NHTSA about a model year, as counts by component.

`GET /v1/vehicles/{id}/complaints`

These are owners' reports. They are not verified, and a count is not a
rate. No complaint itself is available here: only how many there are.

## Path parameters

## Response `200`

The counts. All zero when no complaint names the model year.

- VehicleComplaints: What owners reported to NHTSA about one model year, as counts.
  - `as_of` string, nullable: The day the complaints were current.
  - `attribution` string[], required
  - `complaints` integer, required: Every complaint about the model year. Not a rate: a model that sold more has more.
  - `components` ComponentComplaints[], required: The components with at least five complaints, most first, at most twelve. They do not add up to `complaints`: a complaint may name several, and a part is counted under its system too.
    - `complaints` integer, required
    - `crashes` integer, required: Complaints that report a crash.
    - `fires` integer, required: Complaints that report a fire.
    - `id` string, required: A component id, such as `steering` or `brake-pad`.
    - `injuries` integer, required: Complaints that report at least one person injured.
    - `median_km` integer, nullable: The median of the mileages owners gave, in kilometres. `null` when fewer than five gave one.
    - `median_miles` integer, nullable: The same in miles, as NHTSA records it.
    - `name` string, required
    - `parent` string, nullable: The system a part belongs to. `null` for a system.
  - `crashes` integer, required
  - `fires` integer, required
  - `injuries` integer, required
  - `median_km` integer, nullable
  - `median_miles` integer, nullable
  - `note` string, required: What these counts are and are not.
  - `report_url` string, required: Where an owner files a complaint with NHTSA.
  - `vehicle` RecallVehicle, required: The model year an answer is about.
    - `id` string, required: The id of the year, make and model.

    - `year` integer, required
  - `verified` boolean, required: Always `false`. A complaint is an owner's report. Nobody has verified it, and a count of complaints is not a finding that anything is wrong with the vehicle.

## Other responses

- `404`: `not_found`: no vehicle has that id. `dataset_unavailable`: this server holds no complaints.
