# Apply debit note to bill

`POST /bill-debit-notes/`

## Request

Apply an amount of a debit note to a bill of the same supplier and currency. Both documents must be posted. The application posts a journal entry on its date, which defaults to the debit note's date and must fall in an open period, and lowers the balance of both documents. A debit note can be applied to the same bill more than once.

- ApiV1BillDebitNoteCreate: Apply an amount of a posted debit note to a posted bill of the same supplier.
  - `amount` number, double, required: The amount to apply. It must be positive.
  - `bill` string, required: The ID of the bill to apply the debit note to.
  - `date` string, date: The date the application is posted on. Defaults to the debit note's date and must fall in an open period.
  - `debit_note` string, required: The ID of the debit note to apply.

## Response `201`

- ApiV1BillDebitNoteRead: An amount of a debit note applied to a bill, which reduces what the bill still owes.
  - `amount` number, double, required: The amount of the debit note applied to the bill.
  - `bill` string, required: The ID of the bill the debit note is applied to.
  - `created_ts` string, date-time, required: The timestamp in UTC when the debit note was applied.
  - `date` string, date, required: The date the application is posted on.
  - `debit_note` string, required: The ID of the debit note applied.
  - `id` string, required: The ID of the application.
  - `journal` string, nullable, required: The ID of the journal entry the application posted, or null while either document is a draft. Use GET /v1/journal-line-items/?journal={journal_id} to retrieve the accounting entries.
  - `modified_ts` string, date-time, required: The timestamp in UTC when the application last changed.
