# Rotate the proxy's exit IP

`POST /proxies/{id}/rotate_ip`

## Request

Triggers an IP rotation for a dedicated proxy. Each call requests a
fresh exit IP; the modem typically reflects the new address within a
few seconds. Subsequent reads of `GET /v1/proxies/{id}` will show
the updated `current_ip` once the rotation lands.

Constraints:
- Only dedicated proxies support this endpoint. Calling it on a
  shared (gb) proxy returns `422 NOT_SUPPORTED`.
- The proxy must be `status: active`, else `409 PROXY_NOT_READY`.
- Hard cooldown of 60 seconds per proxy, independent of the API
  key's rate-limit bucket. Each proxy has its own cooldown bucket -
  rotating proxy A does not block rotating proxy B. Excess calls
  on the same proxy return `429 RATE_LIMITED`.

This endpoint is not idempotent by design; each successful call
produces a different IP. `Idempotency-Key` is not honored.

## Response `200`

Rotation accepted. `current_ip` is best-effort and may be `null` if the modem hasn't reported the new address yet.

## Other responses

- `404`: 404 - Proxy not found.
- `409`: 409 - Proxy is still provisioning. Retry shortly.
- `422`: 422 - This action is not supported.
- `429`: 429 - Rate limit exceeded. Retry after the indicated interval.
- `502`: 502 - Service error. Please retry shortly.
