# Start vocal separation

`POST /songs/{id}/separate`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://vocaless.app/api/v1`

- Auth: HTTP bearer

Confirms the upload and queues separation. Charges credits when the job is accepted, and refunds automatically if it fails. Poll the song or subscribe to the `separation.completed` webhook for the result.

## Other responses

- `401`: `UNAUTHORIZED` — Missing, malformed, or revoked API key.
- `402`: `INSUFFICIENT_CREDITS` — Not enough prepaid credits to accept the job. Top up and retry. `STORAGE_LIMIT` — The account's storage limit would be exceeded, or storage billing is delinquent.
- `404`: `NOT_FOUND` — No such song, or it belongs to another account.
- `409`: `NOT_UPLOADED` — No file has been uploaded for this song yet. `ALREADY_SEPARATING` — A separation is already running, or the song is not in an uploadable state.
- `429`: `RATE_LIMITED` — Too many requests for this API key.
- `502`: `WORKER_FAILED` — The separation worker rejected the job. Any charge has been refunded.
