# Stop a running separation

`POST /songs/{id}/cancel`

## Request

Abandons an in-flight separation and returns the song to `uploaded`, so you can re-separate or delete it. **This does not refund the charge**: the job was accepted and the compute is spent either way. The worker is not interrupted, it just finishes into a song that no longer listens. Use this to clear a run that looks stuck, not to undo a mistake.

## Other responses

- `401`: `UNAUTHORIZED` — Missing, malformed, or revoked API key.
- `404`: `NOT_FOUND` — No such song, or it belongs to another account.
- `409`: `NOT_SEPARATING` — There is no separation to stop: it already finished, or never started.
- `429`: `RATE_LIMITED` — Too many requests for this API key.
