# Add License Plate to User

`POST /access/v1/credentials/license_plate`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.verkada.com`
- URL: `https://api.verkada.com/access/v1/credentials/license_plate`
- Auth: one of:
  - API key in header `x-verkada-auth`
  - API key in header `x-api-key`

Add a license plate credential to a user given a specified user_id or external_id and org_id. License plate object will be passed in the body of the request as a json.
We require a string of 6 alphanumeric values. The License Plate Object is returned.

## Query parameters

- `external_id` string: A unique identifier managed externally provided by the customer.
- `user_id` string, uuid: The unique identifier of the user managed by Verkada.

## Request body

- PostLicensePlateBodyV1
  - `active` boolean: Bool value specifying if the license plate credential is currently active. Default value is False.
  - `license_plate_number` string, required: The unique license plate number identifying a license plate credential for a user.
  - `name` string: The name to be given to the license plate credential.

## Response `200`

OK

- LicensePlateObjectResponseV1
