# Verify one email address

`GET /api/v1/verify`

## Request

Verify a single email address (deliverability, syntax, MX, SMTP, disposable, role, catch-all, free-provider). Costs one credit only when the upstream result is chargeable (credits_charged=true); catch-all/unknown results are commonly free (credits_charged=false).

Verification result.

  - `email_original` string: Present only when the input differed from the normalized email.

  - `result` 'deliverable' | 'undeliverable' | 'risky' | 'unknown', required: Overall verdict.
  - `reason` string, required: Human-readable explanation of the verdict.
  - `details` VerificationDetails, required
    - `syntax_valid` boolean, required
    - `domain_exists` boolean, required
    - `mx_records` boolean, required
    - `smtp_valid` boolean, required
    - `is_disposable` boolean, required
    - `is_role_account` boolean, required
    - `is_catch_all` boolean, required
    - `is_free_provider` boolean, required
    - `provider` string, required: Mail provider / domain.
  - `recommendation` 'safe_to_send' | 'risky' | 'do_not_send', required
  - `credits_charged` boolean, required: True if this verification consumed a credit.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid request or invalid input.
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key.
- `402`: Not enough Verifly credits to complete the request.
- `429`: Too many requests. Includes Retry-After (seconds) and the X-RateLimit-* headers.
- `500`: Internal server error. Credits are refunded on failed verification exceptions where possible.
