# Apply for an entry

`POST /applications`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://verifiedhandles.org`
- URL: `https://verifiedhandles.org/applications`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Files an application, which a reviewer decides; you are told by email, and can follow it at `/applications/{id}`. Check first with `GET /applications/check.json`: an item already on an entry is refused, as is an item Wikidata has merged into another (the message names the item it kept), and asking again about one you already have open answers that one (`?dup=1`). 10 a day. A refusal is the form again, as HTML, with every value kept and each problem beside its field.

## Other responses

- `303`: Filed: on to it, `?sent=1`. Or you already have one open on that subject: on to that one, `?dup=1`.
- `400`: The form again, as HTML, with what to fix. (A key with a cookie: `bearer_with_cookie`, JSON.)
- `401`: No key was sent (`auth_required`), or the key was refused: unknown, revoked or expired, its holder may no longer use keys, or this instance takes none. Carries `WWW-Authenticate: Bearer`. After 60 refused keys from one IP address in a minute, every key from there is answered `429` (text, with `Retry-After`) until the minute is up.
- `403`: Your account may not propose: a page that says so. (A read-only key, or a blocked account: JSON.)
- `429`: 10 applications in the last day already: the form again, saying so. Or too many changes in the last minute, as text, with `Retry-After`.
- `503`: Applications are paused: a page that says so.
