# Document translation, Tamil and English

`POST /api/v1/tools/translate_document`

Translate a document between Tamil and English (legal-document quality, the same engine as the Document Translation page). Use for "translate this deed to English", "இதை தமிழில் சொல்லு", "what does this Tamil document say in English". In a chat, attach the document to the message (2 credits). Over the API, pass file_url: a publicly reachable https link to the PDF or scan, which is fetched and read first (3 credits, because the read is done here). Private, internal and non-document links are refused. This is an AI translation: a certified translation is still needed for court or registration use. Costs 3 credits per call, waived when nothing is found.

## Request body

  - `direction` 'tamil-to-english' | 'english-to-tamil' | 'auto-detect': Default auto-detect.
  - `file_url` string: Public https link to the document (PDF or scan image), for callers with no chat attachment. Ignored when a document is attached to the message. Max 25 MB.

The envelope: ok, status, data, credits_charged, balance_after, request_id

## Other responses

- `401`: No valid credential
- `402`: Not enough credits
- `429`: Rate limit
