# Signup

`POST /v1/auth/signup`

## Request

Create an account.

Two modes depending on VDB_REQUIRE_EMAIL_VERIFICATION:

  OFF (default): create user verified, mint api_key, return it once.
                 Same behaviour as the original endpoint.

  ON:            create user UNVERIFIED, generate a single-use token,
                 mail the link, return without api_key. The caller
                 must click /v1/auth/verify?token=… to activate the
                 account and get an api_key.
