# Check for an existing file by hash

`GET /files/check`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.varg.ai/v2`
- URL: `https://api.varg.ai/v2/files/check`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Dedup pre-check — returns whether your account already has a file with
this content hash. Lets clients skip the upload entirely.

## Query parameters

- `hash` string, required

## Response `200`

Check result

- object
  - `exists` boolean
  - `file` object, nullable
    - `file_id` string
    - `url` string
    - `media_type` string
    - `size` integer
    - `filename` string, nullable
    - `origin` string

## Other responses

- `400`: Missing `hash` (`missing_hash`)
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key / JWT
