# Check a quote against the text

`POST /quotes/verify`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.urantia.dev`
- URL: `https://api.urantia.dev/quotes/verify`
- Auth: none required

Checks whether a quoted passage is in the Urantia Papers. It returns the reference, the exact text, and each word that differs. Case and punctuation are ignored. A quote must be at least 4 words and fall within one paragraph.

## Request body

- object
  - `text` string, required: The quoted passage to check. At least 4 words.
  - `ref` string: The reference the quote claims, such as "2:5.1". Optional. When given, that paragraph is checked too.

    - `verdict` 'exact' | 'close' | 'not_found', required: exact: word for word. close: the same passage with small changes. not_found: not in the Urantia Papers.
    - `match` object, nullable, required: The best matching paragraph. For not_found, the nearest one, if any is near.

      - `paperId` string, required
      - `paperTitle` string, required
      - `sectionTitle` string, nullable, required
      - `verdict` 'exact' | 'close' | 'not_found', required
      - `similarity` number, required
      - `text` string, nullable, required: The exact text at the reference that the quote matches.
      - `differences` object[], required: Each place the quote differs: the quote's words, and the words in the text.
        - `quote` string, required
        - `text` string, required
    - `claimedReference` object, nullable, required: The result for the reference the quote claims, when one was given.
      - `ref` string, required
      - `exists` boolean, required
      - `verdict` 'exact' | 'close' | 'not_found' | 'null', nullable, required
    - `alsoFoundAt` string[], required: Other references where the quote appears word for word.

## Other responses

- `400`: The quote is empty or too short
- `429`: Too many requests
