# Create a model version.

`POST /models/versions`

## Request

- Base URL: `http://localhost:8080/api/2.1/unity-catalog`

Creates a new model version instance.

## Request body

- CreateModelVersion
  - `model_name` string, required: Name of registered model, relative to parent schema.
  - `catalog_name` string, required: Name of parent catalog.
  - `schema_name` string, required: Name of parent schema relative to its parent catalog.
  - `source` string, required: URI indicating the location of the source model artifacts.
  - `run_id` string: The run id used by the ML package that generated the model.
  - `comment` string: User-provided free-form text description.

## Response `200`

The new model version was successfully created.

- ModelVersionInfo
  - `model_name` string: The name of the parent registered model of the model version, relative to parent schema
  - `catalog_name` string: The name of the catalog containing the model version
  - `schema_name` string: The name of the schema containing the model version, relative to parent catalog
  - `version` integer: Integer model version number, used to reference the model version in API requests.
  - `source` string: URI indicating the location of the source artifacts (files) for the model version
  - `run_id` string: The run id used by the ML package that generated the model.
  - `status` 'MODEL_VERSION_STATUS_UNKNOWN' | 'PENDING_REGISTRATION' | 'FAILED_REGISTRATION' | 'READY': All possible model version statuses.
  - `storage_location` string: The storage location on the cloud under which model version data files are stored
  - `comment` string: The comment attached to the model version
  - `created_at` integer: Time at which this model version was created, in epoch milliseconds.
  - `created_by` string: The identifier of the user who created the model version
  - `updated_at` integer: Time at which this model version was last modified, in epoch milliseconds.
  - `updated_by` string: The identifier of the user who updated the model version last time
  - `id` string: Unique identifier for the model version.
