# Send a single SMS message

`POST /v1/messages`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.tracklysms.com/api`
- URL: `https://api.tracklysms.com/api/v1/messages`
- Auth: API key in header `X-Api-Key`

**RETIRED**: The v1 message-send path is retired. Use the v2 API.

## Request body

- SingleMessage
  - `body` string, required: Message body text
  - `from_phone_number_id` string, required: Sending list phone number ID
  - `metadata` object: Optional metadata to attach to the message
  - `to_msisdn` string, required: Recipient phone number (E.164 format recommended)

## Other responses

- `401`: Authentication error
- `410`: Endpoint retired
