# Pdf Split

`POST /api/pdf-split`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://toolsthatdontupload.com`
- URL: `https://toolsthatdontupload.com/api/pdf-split`
- Auth: one of:
  - none
  - API key in header `X-API-Key`

Default (unchanged): returns one PDF. Without pages it contains page 1; with pages (alias range) such as 2-3 or 1,3 it contains those pages. To split into several files send format=zip, or send ranges: the result is a ZIP with one PDF per page, or one PDF per comma-separated group of ranges (max 200 files). Headers: X-Page-Count (PDF result) or X-Part-Count (ZIP result).

## Response `200`

One PDF (default) or a ZIP of PDFs (format=zip or ranges)

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad Request: missing or invalid field, for example the file sent as a text value instead of a file part (code file_not_binary), bad page syntax (pages_syntax), or an unknown format value (format)
- `405`: Method Not Allowed: send a POST with multipart/form-data
- `413`: Payload Too Large: uploads are limited to 15 MB per request
- `422`: Unprocessable Entity: the file is not a PDF (code not_pdf), is encrypted or permission-protected (encrypted), or is damaged (invalid_pdf)
- `429`: Anonymous daily limit for file calls reached (20 per IP per day); use a free API key
