# Pdf Metadata

`POST /api/pdf-metadata`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://toolsthatdontupload.com`
- URL: `https://toolsthatdontupload.com/api/pdf-metadata`
- Auth: one of:
  - none
  - API key in header `X-API-Key`

Without title, author, subject or keywords: returns the metadata stored in the file (title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, pageCount, creationDate, modificationDate as ISO 8601; missing values are null). With any of those fields: returns the PDF with the new values (metadata-updated.pdf).

## Response `200`

Metadata JSON, or the updated PDF when fields to set are sent

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad Request: missing or invalid field, for example the file sent as a text value instead of a file part (code file_not_binary)
- `405`: Method Not Allowed: send a POST with multipart/form-data
- `413`: Payload Too Large: uploads are limited to 15 MB per request
- `422`: Unprocessable Entity: the file is not a PDF (code not_pdf), is encrypted or permission-protected (encrypted), or is damaged (invalid_pdf)
- `429`: Anonymous daily limit for file calls reached (20 per IP per day); use a free API key
