# Update a contact

`PATCH /contacts/{contact_id}`

## Request

Update a contact.

## Path parameters

- `contact_id` string, required

## Request body

- ContactUpdate: All fields optional. Only the provided keys are updated. An avatar image can also be set by sending `multipart/form-data` with an `avatar` file part alongside these fields.
  - `name` string
  - `email` string, email
  - `phone` string
  - `company` string
  - `job_title` string
  - `address` string
  - `website` string, uri
  - `notes` string
  - `should_display_image` boolean

## Response `200`

Success.

## Other responses

- `401`: Missing or invalid bearer token.
- `403`: Token is valid but does not include a required scope, or the user does not have access to the resource.
- `404`: Resource not found.
- `422`: Request body failed validation.
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded. The `Retry-After` header indicates how long to wait before retrying. See [Pagination and rate limits](/get-started/pagination) for the full rate-limit policy.
- `500`: Unexpected server error.
