# Search by name

`GET /v1/search`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.themeparks.wiki`
- URL: `https://api.themeparks.wiki/v1/search`
- Auth: one of:
  - none
  - API key in header `X-API-Key`

Finds destinations, parks, rides, shows, restaurants and hotels by name. Matching ignores case, accents, apostrophes and punctuation and forgives small typos, so `spce mountin` finds Space Mountain. Results come best first; `match` says how each one matched, `entityType` and `attractionType` say what it is (a ride, a show, a meet-and-greet), and `park` and `destination` say where it is (`destination` also carries its `country` and `region`), because many rides share a name. Narrow with `types`, `parkId` or `destinationId`; `hasMore` says whether more matched than were returned. Take an `id` from a result and call GET /v1/entity/{id}/live for what it is doing now. Put a park, resort or place in the term to narrow it (`dumbo magic kingdom`, `tornado six flags`, `space mountain florida`, `carousel in minnesota`), ask it the way you would say it (`wait time for space mountain`), or use `wdw`, `dlr`, `dlp` and `tdr` for the four Disney resorts. The term needs at least 3 letters or digits (2 for Chinese, Japanese and Korean), at most 6 words not counting filler such as `the`, `for` and `wait`, and no other parameters are accepted. Cached for up to an hour; a new entity can take that long to appear. Send the term trimmed and in lower case, with only the parameters you need, so that identical searches share a cache entry.

## Query parameters

- `q` string, required
- `types` string
- `limit` integer
- `parkId` string
- `destinationId` string

## Response `200`

Successful response

- SearchResponse: Response for GET /v1/search.
  - `query` string, required: The search term, as received and trimmed.
  - `results` SearchResult[], required: Matches, best first. Empty when nothing matches.
    - `id` string, required: Entity id. Use it with GET /v1/entity/{id}, /live, /children and /schedule. A park and the destination it belongs to often share a name: use the PARK id for that park's waits and hours.
    - `name` string, required: Entity name.
    - `entityType` 'DESTINATION' | 'PARK' | 'ATTRACTION' | 'RESTAURANT' | 'HOTEL' | 'SHOW', required: Type of entity in the theme park system
    - `attractionType` 'UNKNOWN' | 'RIDE' | 'SHOW' | 'TRANSPORT' | 'PARADE' | 'MEET_AND_GREET' | 'OTHER': Kind of attraction: a ride, a show, a means of transport, a parade, a meet-and-greet, or something else. UNKNOWN when the park does not say.
    - `match` 'EXACT' | 'PREFIX' | 'WORD' | 'CONTAINS' | 'FUZZY', required: How the name matched. EXACT: the same name. PREFIX: the name starts with the term. WORD: a word, or every word, of the name starts with the term. CONTAINS: the term appears inside the name. FUZZY: close to a name, with typos forgiven. Results are ordered best first.
    - `location` EntityLocation
      - `latitude` number, nullable: Latitude coordinate of the entity location
      - `longitude` number, nullable: Longitude coordinate of the entity location
    - `park` SearchResultRef: A park or destination, by id and name.
      - `id` string, required: Entity id.
      - `name` string, required: Entity name.
    - `destination` SearchResultDestination: A destination, by id and name, and where in the world it is.
      - `id` string, required: Entity id.
      - `name` string, required: Entity name.
      - `country` string, nullable, required: ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code, for example US or GB. Hong Kong is HK and Macau is MO, never CN. Null until the destination has been placed.
      - `region` string, nullable, required: State, province or nation in English, for example Florida or England. Never a county. Null where the country is no bigger than a region (HK, MO, SG), and until the destination has been placed.
  - `hasMore` boolean, required: True when more matched than were returned. Narrow the search with a longer term, types, parkId or destinationId.
