# Get Chat

`GET /agent/chat/{chat_id}/messages`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.tellers.ai` (the document declares no server; this is the origin it was published from)
- URL: `https://api.tellers.ai/agent/chat/{chat_id}/messages`
- Auth: none declared

The chat's messages, newest first.

Fetching the newest page (no ``offset``, no ``before``) marks the chat read
up to the newest message returned, unless an admin is impersonating.

## Path parameters

- `chat_id` string, uuid, required

## Query parameters

- `offset` integer
- `limit` integer
- `before` string, date-time, nullable

## Headers

- `x-api-key` string, nullable
- `authorization` string, nullable

## Response `200`

Successful Response

  - union
    - ChatMessageUserResponse
      - `type` 'user'
      - `id` string, required
      - `user_message` string, required
      - `enabled_tools` string[], required
      - `verbosity` string, required
      - `reasoning_effort` string, required
      - `pricing_level` 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5, required
      - `llm_model` string, nullable, required
      - `priority` string, nullable, required
      - `parallel_tool_calls` boolean, nullable, required
      - `max_tellers_token` integer, nullable, required
      - `prefer_compaction` integer, nullable: The preferred compaction threshold the message was sent with, as `prefer_compaction` in the agent message request. Null when it was sent without one -- the model's own threshold applied -- and on messages written before the settings were recorded at all.
      - `llm_settings` object, nullable: The LLM settings the message was sent with that have no field of their own above -- `tool_exposure`, `compaction` and the like -- keyed by their name in the agent message request. Restoring the composer means the fields above plus this. It holds no value that is already a field, so nothing here can disagree with them. Null on messages written before the column existed, which ran under whatever these settings defaulted to at the time.
      - `context` object, required
      - `created_at` string, date-time, required
    - ChatMessageAgentResponse
      - `type` 'agent'
      - `id` string, required
      - `agent_message` object, required
      - `created_at` string, date-time, required
