# Delete a patient

`DELETE /v1/patients/{patient_id}`

## Request

Soft-delete a patient by its public id (sp_...) or by the internalCode you set for your institution. For right-to-erasure requests. Returns 404 if no patient with that id is visible to your key.

- `patient_id` string, required

## Other responses

- `401`: Unauthorized — missing or invalid API key.
- `403`: Forbidden — the API key is not allowed to perform this operation.
- `404`: Not Found — the requested resource does not exist.
- `503`: Service Unavailable — an external dependency is down.
