# Create a Smart Template

`POST /v1/medical-record-configurations`

## Request

Register a Smart Template (medical record configuration). Idempotent on content hash: identical configurations for the same account return the existing id with `created: false`.

## Request body

- CreateMedicalRecordConfigurationRequest: Request body for registering a medical record configuration — a map of section key to section definition.
  - `name` string, nullable: Human-readable display name. Defaults to the public id when omitted.
  - `description` string, nullable: Optional human-readable description of the template.

  - `workflow` 'defaultOutpatient' | 'inpatient' | 'emergencyRoom' | 'reportDictation' | 'historySummary': Product discriminator for a template. Absent means an ordinary Scribe template. `defaultOutpatient`, `inpatient`, and `emergencyRoom` also denote a Scribe template; each names the clinical care setting the template is written for. `reportDictation` and `historySummary` denote a non-Scribe product.
  - `configuration` object, required: Section map keyed by node key (schema + optional prompt strategy). A key is a stable identifier that matches `^[A-Za-z0-9_]+$` (ASCII letters, digits, underscore). Put display text in the section `schema.label`.

Successful Response

- CreateMedicalRecordConfigurationResponse: Response body for registering a medical record configuration.
  - `id` string, required: Public ID of the medical record configuration.
  - `name` string, required: Resolved display name (defaults to the public id when none was provided).
  - `hash` string, required: SHA-256 hash of the canonical configuration JSON.
  - `createdAt` string, date-time, required
  - `created` boolean, required: True if a new configuration was created; False if a matching one already existed.
  - `example` object: Shape of the final payload this template produces, keyed by section name. Leaf values are typed placeholders (`<string>`, `<number>`, `<a | b>` for enums, `<YYYY-MM-DD>` for dates); object sections nest, free-text sections are a single string.

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad Request — invalid parameters, validation failures, or missing fields.
- `401`: Unauthorized — missing or invalid API key.
- `409`: Conflict — resource already exists or is in a conflicting state.
- `503`: Service Unavailable — an external dependency is down.
