# Get conversation messages

`GET /ai/conversations/{conversation_id}/messages`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.telnyx.com/v2`
- URL: `https://api.telnyx.com/v2/ai/conversations/{conversation_id}/messages`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Retrieve messages for a specific conversation, including tool calls made by the assistant.

## Path parameters

- `conversation_id` string, required

## Query parameters

- `page[size]` integer
- `page[number]` integer

## Response `200`

Successful Response

- ConversationMessageListData
  - `data` ConversationMessage[], required
    - `role` 'user' | 'assistant' | 'tool', required: The role of the message sender.
    - `text` string, required: The message content. Can be null for tool calls.
    - `tool_calls` object[]: Optional tool calls made by the assistant.
      - `id` string, required: Unique identifier for the tool call.
      - `type` 'function', required: Type of the tool call.
      - `function` object, required
        - `name` string, required: Name of the function to call.
        - `arguments` string, required: JSON-formatted arguments to pass to the function.
    - `created_at` string, date-time: The datetime the message was created on the conversation. This does not necesarily correspond to the time the message was sent. The best field to use to determine the time the end user experienced the message is `sent_at`.
    - `sent_at` string, date-time: The datetime the message was sent to the end user.

  - `meta` Meta, required
    - `total_pages` integer, required
    - `total_results` integer, required
    - `page_number` integer, required
    - `page_size` integer, required
