# Merge two cases

`POST /v1/cases/merge`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.talonic.com`
- URL: `https://api.talonic.com/v1/cases/merge`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Absorb case B into case A by passing both case UUIDs in the request
body. A's documents/links/findings are kept and B's are reparented onto
A; B is tombstoned (excluded from future rebuilds, never deleted).

## Request body

- object
  - `case_key_a` string, uuid, required: UUID of the surviving target case — receives the merged documents.
  - `case_key_b` string, uuid, required: UUID of the absorbed case — its documents are folded into case A.

## Response `200`

Cases merged. Returns the surviving (target) case row — an object
carrying at least `id`, `case_key`, `status`, `display_name`,
`assignee`, `resolution_notes`, `title`, `blurb`, `summary`,
`source`, `stale`, and build timestamps.

- object: The surviving target case row.
  - `id` string, uuid
  - `case_key` string
  - `status` 'discovered' | 'confirmed' | 'active' | 'resolved'
  - `display_name` string, nullable

## Other responses

- `400`: The request is invalid.
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key.
- `404`: The requested resource was not found.
- `429`: Daily rate limit exceeded.
