# Open a revision of a live post

`POST /posts/{id}/revise`

## Request

A published post is not edited in place. This returns its open revision, or makes one: a draft holding the live text and images, with `revisesId` set. PATCH and submit it like any draft; when it goes out its text replaces the live post's (same URL, id and first-publication date). At most one open revision per post. 409 `not_published` on a post that is not live.

## Other responses

- `400`: `bad_request`: the id is not an integer.
- `401`: No credential, or a token that is unknown, revoked or expired. The response carries `WWW-Authenticate: Bearer realm="sweetvaluelab"`; `error.code` is `unauthenticated`.
- `404`: `not_found`: no post with that id on this account (a deleted post is gone).
- `409`: `not_allowed`: the post is in a state this action does not start from; `error.message` says which.
